About This Simulation

Horizon 2030: Building the Workforce for an AI-Enabled Future is an applied learning simulation created to support Strategic Human Resource Management by Roger Batchelor. It complements Chapter 2 by giving you an opportunity to apply human resources planning and workforce analytics concepts to a realistic organizational situation.

In this simulation, you will serve as Director of Strategic Workforce Planning at Meridian Digital Group, a 1,200-employee technology and business-services organization preparing to launch an AI-enabled product line and enter two new markets.

You will interpret workforce evidence, forecast future requirements, assess internal and external workforce supply, identify capability gaps, develop a coordinated workforce strategy, and determine how results should be measured.

Your decisions should draw on concepts such as strategic workforce planning, demand forecasting, internal and external labour supply, workforce gaps, recruitment, retention, employee development, succession planning, job redesign, human resources information systems, workforce metrics, analytics, evidence-informed decision-making, and strategic HR outcomes.

Your choices will affect four live organizational indicators throughout the simulation: Capability Coverage, Workforce Readiness, Retention Stability, and Evidence Confidence.

1. Review the Situation Examine Meridian’s strategy, workforce evidence, constraints, and emerging risks.
2. Make Decisions Complete six decision stages independently and examine the organizational consequences of your choices.
3. Review Your Report Generate your personalized completion report and print or save it as a PDF.
Completion requirement: Enter your first and last name and complete every decision. This is an applied-learning activity, not a search for one perfect answer. Make each decision independently, then use the feedback to examine its strategic implications.
