About this healthcare job design simulation
Aldercrest: Redesigning Work for Safer Care is a free healthcare HR simulation on job analysis and work design. You are the HR project lead at Aldercrest Health Network, a fictional Ontario organization, running a 90-day redesign of referral and discharge coordination.
Staff describe unclear roles, incomplete handoffs and workload pressure, all of which put patient safety and flow at risk. You weigh imperfect job-analysis evidence, define roles and competencies, redesign work to be sustainable, and coordinate a pilot across clinical and administrative teams, making five connected decisions along the way.
What you will practise
- Applying job analysis in a healthcare setting
- Defining roles and competencies for coordination work
- Designing safer, sustainable workloads
- Managing a cross-functional change pilot
- Reflecting on the whole system, not just one role
Created for Chapter 4 of the open textbook Human Resources Management and Labour Relations in Healthcare. It ends with a personalized report you can print or submit. See all healthcare HR simulations or all free simulations.
